This weekend we went to another incredible trip to the French side of Lake Geneva, to Yvoire. Yvoire is filled with incredible views and spectacular aesthetic. The snow-capped Alps stretch as far as the eyes can see, hillside vineyards boast an uninterrupted charm, swans on Lake Geneva bring feelings of tranquility, and quaint villages offer simple, yet stunning beauty. As much as I love visiting a big city, it’s the countryside where I feel most at home and at ease with life.
Romantic, medieval, flower-rich Yvoire is a small French town on Lake Geneva popular with day-trippers from Geneva, Lausanne, Nyon (by passenger ferry), Evian. From the Garden of Five Senses, to gates and ramparts which used to protect the village, there’s something around every corner waiting to be discovered.
Yvoire’s written history goes back to 1306 and a time when Lake Geneva castles played an important role in protecting the strategic trade routes through the Alps and along the lake. However, changing trade routes pushed Yvoire into decline and relative obscurity since the sixteenth century.
Everything is made for your pleasure
In the heart of the village, don’t miss the occasion to visit the Garden of Five Senses classified “Remarkable Garden” by the Ministry of Culture. This little piece of green heaven invites you to a poetic discovery of the plants with your five senses. Yvoire has been named one of the hundred most beautiful towns in France and has been a 4-flower Village Fleuri since the 1950s.
Perch: The Famous Culinary Specialty of Yvoire
Perch is certainly the most famous, the fillets are an avoidable culinary institution. But Lake Geneva is flooded with numerous other species with much flavor: some arctic char or trout. But, if you don’t like fish, taste a bit of dry sausage or some cheese from Savoie or a crêpe or an ice cream. Yvoire provides you with plenty of possibilities to have something to eat.
We ended the day, with a little wine tasting while watching the sun set over Lake Geneva, Jura, Switzerland and the Northern Alps. It was truly the perfect end to a trip I’ll never forget!
For our trip to Yvoire, I wore a Elisabetta Franchi floral maxi dresses that paired perfectly with my favorite gold Sergio Rossi heels (of course with a pair of Toni Pons espadrilles in my bag) and had my trusty denim jacket for some added warmth.
Maxi dresses are my favorite day-trips wear, glamorous yet relaxed at the same time. I usually wear mine with sandals or flats, opting for minimal makeup and simple accessories to keep with that laid-back summer vibe. This floral dress meets all of my vacation dreams with its wrap waist style and white viscose fabric. Maxi dresses have and will always be my favorite summer wear. It is something that you’ll reach for again and again when packing for a warm weather destination.
